Halcyon is designed to be part of the puzzle of discovering posttraumatic growth and new identity after trauma. The brief list below includes several community resources that may be helpful during challenging times.
If individuals took the time to learn and respond to signs of crisis, suicidal ideation, and compromised cognitive states, society could start to change for the better. Caring and choosing to act are the first steps to a stronger community; after all, we are all in this together.
Suicide Prevention Resource Center
As the name states, this site offers information for signs of crisis, safe intervention protocol, formal training and programs, and prevention planning steps. National.
National Alliance on Mental Illness
NAMI offers a plethora of information and resources regarding mental health, with a specific division for military and veteran experiences. Local chapters of NAMI offer support groups and frequent meetings for discussions. Search for the local chapter, and follow up from there.
NAMI Homefront offers support as part of the Family-to-Family division. With a focus on trauma symptoms and consequences (mostly a PTSD feel, less with moral injury), this is an informative program for family, friends, and caregivers of service members and veterans.
Crisis Intervention | HopeLine
Based out of the Raleigh-Durham region, HopeLine is an anonymous texting/call-in line for individuals experiencing a crisis. By contacting the numbers listed on the site, a person will be connected with another individual who will text/call through the crisis experience. The program also offers a regular calling service to elderly adults and those living alone, just to provide comfort to individuals, and to let them know that there is always someone willing to listen.
Sandhills Center CIT Training
Based in the Sandhills of North Carolina, this organization offers crisis response and crisis intervention team (CIT) training. If you might be interested in learning more about crisis intervention and suicide intervention, this is a good local resource to begin your research.
International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. One group of which Andrea is part, which greatly contributes to her moral trauma and posttraumatic growth research.
International Critical Incident Stress Foundation provides extensive training, information, and guidelines for crisis and suicide intervention, crisis response team formation, and regional workshops/seminars. This group has been integral to Andrea’s training and familiarity in the crisis realm.
